Where to stay in the Dominican Republic
The east coast is where the all-inclusives are. Which stretch suits you depends on how you like to travel and how far you want to ride from the airport.
-
Punta Cana and Bávaro
The biggest run of resorts on the island, a short transfer from Punta Cana International, where most US flights to the resorts land. The widest choice, from family resorts to adults-only.
-
Cap Cana
A gated, quieter enclave just south of the airport, with a marina and Juanillo beach. Fewer resorts, most of them upscale.
-
Uvero Alto
North of Bávaro and a longer ride from the airport. Newer resorts, several of them adults-only, on a wilder stretch of beach.
-
La Romana
The south-east coast, with its own small airport and a slower pace. Home to the Casa de Campo resort, and close to the boats for Saona and Catalina islands.
Choosing the area is the first thing she helps with.

Punta Cana questions, answered
Is it cheaper to book an all-inclusive through a travel agent?
Usually not more expensive, and planning with Kristina is free: the resorts and tour operators pay her. In her experience you pay the same package price as booking it yourself, and often less, because she compares packages across travel companies.
When is the worst time to go to Punta Cana?
There is no bad month, only trade-offs. The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with most storms from August to October. Sargassum seaweed can reach some beaches in the warmer months, and how much arrives changes from year to year and beach to beach. December to April is the driest and busiest stretch, so it also costs the most.
Is there a travel advisory for the Dominican Republic?
Check the U.S. State Department's current advisory for the Dominican Republic before you book. Advisory levels change, so it is worth reading the latest one rather than an old article.
How much does an all-inclusive trip to Punta Cana cost?
Most of the trips Kristina books come in under $5,000 per booking. The price moves with the season, the resort and your flights from home, so she prices real options for your dates rather than quoting a guess.
Punta Cana, Cap Cana or La Romana: which is for us?
Punta Cana and Bávaro have the most choice and the shortest transfers. Cap Cana is quieter and more upscale. La Romana is slower-paced, with its own airport. The area guide above has the detail, and Kristina can narrow it down from how you like to travel.
